Valve has introduced a trio of new gaming hardware, signaling a major leap forward in its hardware ambitions. The lineup includes the Steam Machine, a compact desktop console; the Steam Controller 2, redesigned with touch-sensitive panels; and the Steam Frame, a hybrid VR headset capable of both standalone and PC-connected gameplay.

The Steam Machine features a minimalist, cube-like design reminiscent of the Xbox Series X but with a shorter profile. Under the hood, it’s powered by an AMD Zen 4 chipset paired with a custom RDNA GPU (8GB VRAM) and 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Valve claims a 6x performance boost over the Steam Deck, though detailed specs remain under wraps. Storage options range from 512GB to 2TB, and the system runs on SteamOS, targeting 4K gaming at 60 FPS with AMD’s FSR upscaling enabled.

The Steam Controller 2 blends the ergonomics of an Xbox controller with the stick layout of a PlayStation pad. Its standout feature is a pair of touch panels designed to emulate mouse input, offering a unique control scheme for PC-style navigation. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the controller is expected to launch alongside the console in 2026.

The Steam Frame VR headset is designed for flexibility: it can operate independently or stream games directly from a PC. It boasts dual 2160×2160 LCD displays, a 110-degree field of view, and refresh rates up to 144Hz. Inside, it’s powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 ARM chip, 16GB of RAM, and runs SteamOS. A key innovation is foveated streaming - using built-in eye-tracking cameras, the headset renders the sharpest visuals exactly where the user is looking, optimizing clarity and reducing latency.

For PC connectivity, Valve includes a dedicated 6GHz wireless adapter (Wi-Fi 6E) in the box, ensuring low-latency streaming without relying on standard Wi-Fi networks. The headset weighs 440 grams, and while pricing and an exact release date remain unconfirmed, Valve has slated all three products for a 2026 launch.
